Description
Two (2) scarce early original vintage silver gelatin Type l first generation photographs shows views of the famous British aircraft carrier H.M.S. ARK ROYAL.These is not a copies or reproductions but Type 1 first generation photographs developed from the original negative and dated 3/25/40 and 6/2/41.
Ark Royal operated in some of the most active naval theatres of the Second World War. She was involved in the first aerial U-boat kills of the war, operations off Norway, the search for the German battleship Bismarck, and the Malta Convoys. Ark Royal survived several near misses and gained a reputation as a 'lucky ship'. She was torpedoed on 13 November 1941 by the German submarine U-81 and sank the following day.
Photographs measure 6 x 8 and 7 x 9 inches and are in excellent condition with no bends, tears, or creases and are very sharp with strong tones with good contrast and clarity.
